13th anniversary of arriving in NYC

Today is the 13th anniversary of my landing in NYC for the first time. I chose the moon landing anniversary as a metaphor to boldly try something new, unexplored, and out of my comfort zone. I did fly First Class though, I wanted to arrive in style!

I love New York more than anything, even when she gets me down and I take a break, I still look forward to coming back. New York is my home and it will be for years to come.

I think about how much it has changed me, and yet how much I have felt like I’ve always belonged here.

Thank you for welcoming me and taking good care of me New York, New York.

My favorite blog EV Grieve posts that we are getting a new bagel store on my block – bagels are back in the East Village. Not like I’ve missed them – I’ve never had a bagel, so this will be my first one! Let’s all support this guy – he has to pay $9,000 a month in rent!

Near miss on the IND A train at 14th Street

In my 13 years of riding the MTA NYC subway system, I have never seen two trains this close. A near miss this morning!

Quite a 24 hours I’m having… my nerves, my nerves!

Big fire on 240 E. Houston @ Avenue A (my street)

Believe it or not this is not the biggest fire I’ve seen on my street. They had 188 firemen from 33 divisions fighting this. It was 90 degrees out as well – imagine just how hot it was near this. No word on the cause but word on the street is that the building did not have permits for construction – you know what that means. Reports of 8 firefighters injured. Hope you’re OK guys.

EV Grieve, one of the best blogs in the LES/EV/Alphabet City covered it best.

Great job FDNY putting this fire out quickly. Fires can spread super fast in NY, which is why this went to a four alarm fire pretty quickly.
